Foundations || Full coverage and long wearing

How is everyone?! ¬†I know I’ve been forgetting to post lately but I’ve been focusing on Youtube (elanna pecherle) a lot but I’m going to try to post once a week on here until I sort out my schedule. I’m going to focus on a lot more reviews on new products so that you guys can see if you want to purchase and give it a go. What are you guys wanting to see more of? Comment and let me know ūüôā

Today I’m focusing on my 3 favourite foundations that are FULL coverage and long wearing. They all are absolutely fantastic but I love them for different reasons. Hopefully this is helpful for you guys and especially because we are coming into warmer weather and we want our foundation to last as long as possible.

Maybelline FIT ME Matte and Poreless Foundation

Price: $8.00 – $10.00

Where to buy: Shoppers Drug Mart, Wal-Mart and Rexall

This foundation is a winner in my eyes for a drugstore foundation. It’s rich formula blends out flawlessly on the skin leaving no streaks. What I love best about this foundation is that you don’t need to wear a primer with it. It smooths out the skins texture and leaves a flawless finish. The colour range is great and it lasts a long time on the skin. For even longer wear try the FIT ME powder to set with. The combo of both products is heavenly if you have oily skin.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Price: $40.00 Р$44.00

Where to buy: Select Shoppers Drug Mart, The Bay and Sephora

This is my all time fave foundation. On days where I know it’s going to be long and filled with little mirror time (touch ups) I know I can count on this foundation to keep it together for me. The foundation is thick but I always use it with a beauty blender and it’s the perfect consistency. A little goes a long way with this stuff but I promise you that you’ll fall in love. It isn’t too drying but doesn’t make you look too “glowy”.

NARS Luminous Weightless Foundation

Price: $50.00 Р$57.00

Where to Buy: The Bay, Sephora and Holt Renfrew

Yes, this foundation is way too expensive but you use the SMALLEST amount and it’s a beautiful finish. If you have oily skin, this will be your saving grace. It’s a super watery consistency and one pump can give a natural finish, two pumps is heavenly. I know I’ll be loving this stuff in the summer when my skin is over its dry patch stage (clings to any dry skin so exfoliate).

Last year I posted a “how to contour” step by step, but I thought it would be great if I showed you my updated routine. Instead of using cream products (which sometimes is a little heavy and too much effort) this way is super easy and everyone can do it.

The most important part of contouring is remembering that everyone has a different face shape. For example, if you have a a larger forehead and narrow chin, you’ll want to contour your forehead¬†and really highlight your chin¬†so that it brings proportion to the face. Wherever you use a dark shade it creates a shadow and makes that area look defined and sculpted and wherever you want to highlight and lift¬†you use a lighter shade.

Hope this helps and you can all give it a try!

The most important step of contouring is to have a perfect base. Use a heavier foundation and really create a flawless finish.

Using a very pale highlighting concealer ( I used Maybelline Instant Age Rewind) map out the areas of your face that you want to highlight and lift. I did under my eyes, nose, forehead, above my lip, chin and lower cheek.

After your blend out the concealer make sure you set with a yellow tone powder. I used banana powder from Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit.

Taking a grey tone brown start blending it in the areas you want to contour and sculpt. I put it under my cheek bones, sides of my nose, temples and jaw line.

I used fawn from the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit.

After your happy with your highlight and contour then add a pop of blush to your cheeks and some highlighter to the high points of your face for added effect.

Blake Lively Inspired Ponytail

Blake Lively is definitely one of my hair inspirations and I loved this look she wore a while back and thought it would be perfect for the Holidays. This is for the girls who are daring and “ballsy” with their hair. It would be perfect for some one who is going strait from work to a Holiday party. Hope you enjoy and try it out even if you don’t think it’s your style, you may change your mind!

Gather all your hair into a regular ponytail. You can choose to make it slick and tight, or loose and textured.

Back comb the pony so that it will appear thicker.

Taking the top half of the pony, braid it into a fishtail braid. *OPTIONAL

This is where you can have fun. Taking clear elastics start creating balls in your pony. You can make them all different sizes or keep it uniform.

Christmas Twist || Easy Updo

This hairstyle is super easy to do and it looks like you spent a lot longer than you actually did on it. Great if you’re running late for a dinner or party, this hairstyle is chic, elegant and perfect for the holidays.

Starting off with the bottom section of your hair, roll it around your fingers in one direction and pin into place.

This hairstyle works best in sections, so depending on how thick your hair is will decide how many sections you should do. Make sure you roll every section in the same direction. This will create the “french twist” effect.

With the top and final section, back comb the roots so that you have volume. I like to feather out some pieces so that it looks more effortless and tousled.

Twist the final section and secure with bobby pins.

Victoria Secret Fashion Show 2014 | MAKE UP

As most of you may know, tonight is the airing of the 2014 Victoria Secret Fashion Show. A night to get together with your girls (although I’m sure the boys wouldn’t mind joining in) and watch beautiful, fit women strut their stuff in jaw dropping costume lingerie. Being a Fashion Merchandising graduate I was always in awe of the themes and how incredible every look is.

I’ve been following some of the models on social media and love the makeup and hair they rocked for the show. As always it’s soft and sexy but this year they really focused on extra glowy skin, defined eyes and a glossy pink lip! I hope you guys all enjoy this pic-torial and give it a try for yourself! Who doesn’t want to be a angel anyways?

Step One:

All the models already have flawless skin and it didn’t look like they were wearing any foundation so I used MAC face and body since it has a natural, dewy finish.

Step Two:

To highlight and accentuate the high points of my face I used MAC Pro Longwear concealer. Concentrate this to the centre of your face. *Don’t forget to set with powder!

Step Three:

Taking a light pink shimmer shadow, dust this all over your lid right up to your brow bone.

Step Four:

Using a bronze/topaz colour start blending it out at the outer corners of your eyes. This will give your eyes a “sexier” shape.

Step Five:

To define it even more take a dark bronze colour and really blend this right at your lash line and fade it out. To add some flutter to my lashes I added the Ardell demi wispies lashes.

Step Six:

To give me an all over glow I took MAC “give me sun” bronzer all over my face and lightly contoured with it. For a pop of colour on my cheeks I used MAC “well dressed” blush.

Step Seven:

For that “angelic” glow I used The Balm “mary loumanizer” on all the high points of my face.

Step Eight:

Finishing off the look with MAC “angel” lipstick (how fitting) and NARS “turkish delight” gloss on top.

How To: Fake Fishtail

This post is for all those girls out there that have a hard time doing cool braids or fishtails with their hair. This is seriously the easiest hairstyle and it looks EXACTLY like a fishtail but even better. I hope this helps you out and that you love it as much as I do!

Step One:

Starting at the back of your head, grab two pieces of hair and tie them together with a clear elastic (you can get these at shoppers for $5.00). Once you’ve secured it with the elastic, pull the lower half through the hole that the upper pieces leave in between.

Step Two:

Grabbing another two pieces do the exact same thing. Make sure the hair you grab is all different sizes so that the end result has more texture.

Step Three:

Continue the first step all the way to the ends of your hair and secure with an elastic. This method of using elastics ensures your hair will stay all day where as a regular fishtail can fall out if you don’t have all one length hair.

Step Four:

For extra fullness, lightly tug at random pieces to make it more messy and effortless.

Good Luck!

Mermaid Hair | Review

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of this Mermaid Perfume products being talked about on some of the blogs I follow, so naturally I wanted to try it out myself. Who doesn’t want to be a Mermaid anyways?

I ordered the Mermaid perfume and Mermaid hair shine spray just to test out a couple of their products. What is great about their site is that it IS free shipping (hallelujah) and it came in good time. Also right now all products are 10% off and you receive a tote bag with a $50.00 purchase or more. When I first opened the box I wasn’t too thrilled on the packaging… it is sweet and simple but looks a wee bit cheap. Other than that I was pleasantly surprised with everything else.

Now $45.00

Fragrance : Orange Blossom Flowers

When I first sprayed this perfume I wasn’t crazy about the scent, but as it began it sink into my skin and wear a little more I fell in love. It’s a romantic and feminine smell and actually wears on my skin/clothes/hair all day which is amazing!

Now $25.20

Fragrance: Coconut and Orange Blossom Flower

I was super excited about this product in particular because I’m crazy for anything coconut. After trying this product I really want to get their Shampoo and Conditioner since it smells like coconuts as well.¬†The shine spray really softens my hair while giving it a beautiful shine and incredible smell.

Holiday Sparkle

The Holidays are approaching and with that comes the parties! This look is great to add a little glam and sparkle to your look but isn’t too much for all the natural makeup girls out there. I will be doing a couple different makeup and hair looks that would be great to rock at any Christmas party this year. Hope you enjoy!

After applying an eye shadow base, take a taupe brown and really blend it. Really constrict this colour JUST to the crease because we want to create a “cut crease” effect.

This is where you can have fun. Taking the Stila foil shadow in the rose gold colour I placed it on the lid. I really layered this product on so that it was the main focus of her eyes.

Taking a medium bronze colour, blend it under the lash line to give definition to the eyes.

I felt like the look could use a bit more drama so I gave her a cat eye to really show off the sparkle on her lid.

To finish off the eyes I added a pair of edgy lashes to compliment the cat eye liner. This part is of course optional.

For Erica’s face I just used a tinted moisturizer, warm colour bronzer and my Givenchy highlighting pen. For her lips I kept it neutral and lined them with MAC Stripdown liner and filled with Buxom Lip foundation in Undressed.

Good Luck!

Makeup for Mature Women

I’ve been wanting to do a post on this for a long time and I finally convinced my mom to be my model. She is 58 and is one serious babe show! She has always been interested in anything beauty related but with work, taking care of two young boys and doing all the typical motherly duties, sometimes taking time for herself comes last. ¬†Today she let me do her makeup and show her some tips and tricks that I recommend. Doing your makeup properly when you are mature makes the biggest difference in the world. Every women should feel beautiful at any age and my mom is a true model of that. Hope this is helpful for women out there and that you can take something from it. Enjoy xx

Step One:

After prepping her skin with a hydrating moisturizer and some primer I moved on to a water based foundation (MAC face and body foundation). This is great for light coverage but is easily build-able. Blending all this in with a beauty sponge is great for giving an even, flawless finish.

Step Two:

I didn’t want to do any harsh contouring so I took MAC “give me sun” bronzer and just warmed up her face in areas the sun would naturally hit it. To give her a healthy, bright look I took a rose tone blush and popped it onto the apples of her cheek.

* For mature skin it’s key to stick to matte formulas since anything with shimmer or glitter will crease in wrinkles.

Step Three:

Brows are probably the most important part of the face. This is what gives proportion and frames the eyes. It also gives a more youthful look the thicker you go with them. I used Caramel Brow wiz and Caramel Brow gel from Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Step Four:

I didn’t want to go overboard with the eyeshadow but I also wanted to showcase her bright¬†blue eyes so I stuck with a warm tone brown and just blended it from lash line to crease.

* Again, stick to matte eyeshadows or even a waterproof shadow stick

Step Five:

Taking a dark brown eyeliner (MAC Stubborn Brown) I rimmed the upper and lower lash line to make her lashes appear thicker. Smudging the line will create a softer effect. This is a great trick to open up the eyes and especially if you don’t have full lashes, this will help.

Step Six:

I always say one coat of mascara is never enough, but with this one (TARTE Lights camera flashes) you really only need one. Don’t forget your lower lashes!

Step Seven:

Keeping the lips natural, I used a rosy nude colour that would make her eyes pop even more. ( She really does have the bluest, brightest eyes!).

Five Faves : Lip Balm

We all know that with colder weather comes dry, cracked lips. This is probably one of my least favourite things about the colder months but there are ways to combat it! Down below are some of my favourite lip balms and a great lip scrub that I use all Fall and Winter. You really can never have enough of them, so with that being said, enjoy!

1. DIOR Rose smoothing balm

This product is a little bit on the pricey side but it is worth every penny. It really soothes any irritations or dryness and lightly plumps my lips while doing so. Can’t say no to bigger looking lips. To top it off it has a slight rose scent to give it that luxe feel.

2. VASELINE Lip Therapy

When in need, use Vaseline! We all know this product to be deeply hydrating and completely soften up the lips. I like to use this like a mask before I go to bed because it’s so dense in texture and really soaks into my lips leaving them soft and kissable in the morning.

3.  C.O. BIGELOW Rose Salve

Can you tell I have a thing for rose scented products? This lip balm is great because not only does it hydrate my lips but I love prepping with it before I put on my lipstick for the day. It also has a light red tint to it so it can also be worn on its own for a more natural look. Only downside to this product is that it can be really hard to open.

4. EOS Strawberry

Of course I had to include the famous EOS lip balm because, lets be real, we all have one. This is a great product to carry in your purse or bag because it’s so easy to find and apply. No messy fingers after applying, just a quick swipe of this on your lips and you’re good to go. It isn’t as moisturizing as the previous balms but does the job and smells good while doing so.

5. LUSH Mint Julips Lip Scrub

Now, I know this isn’t a lip balm but it goes with any of them to really get that extra soft lip. This exfoliator is all natural and really takes off all the dead skin from your lips without over doing it. It is made with real sugar and tastes like mints so you can just eat it after your finished exfoliating. Mixing this with any of the lip balms will make the texture less abrasive.
